MEET ANTON
Anton A. Bell is a career prosecutor who has devoted his legal career to public safety throughout the Hampton Roads area. As a native and life long resident of Hampton Roads, Attorney Bell was reared by a single mother in the urban settings of Norfolk. Overcoming the many challenges and temptations that so very often entrap African American males, Bell went on to graduate from Norfolk Catholic High School (now Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School). Following high school, Attorney Bell attended Norfolk State University and North Carolina Central University School of Law (both Historically Black Colleges/Universities) where he graduated with Honors.

After being admitted to the Virginia State Bar, Anton began his career as a prosecutor in the City of Portsmouth, later bringing his expertise to Hampton. For over two decades, he has served in various roles within the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, starting with the prosecution of child molestation cases. His dedication to protecting the most vulnerable quickly earned him a reputation for excellence and compassion.

Anton expanded his focus to include all violent crimes, particularly homicides, and was cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. In this role, he worked with the Peninsula Drug Task Force, aggressively combating drug trafficking in both federal and state courts. Anton’s relentless pursuit of justice has made Hampton a safer place, holding offenders accountable while advocating for victims and their families.

For the past four years, Anton has served as Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney, managing teams of prosecutors in both General District Court and Juvenile Domestic and Relations District Court. In this role, he has balanced the demands of litigation with the complexities of office management, demonstrating exceptional leadership and organizational skills.

Beyond the courtroom, Anton has dedicated himself to mentoring the next generation. He has guided younger attorneys in their legal careers while also inspiring youth across Hampton Roads. Through programs like Keep the Peace, Anton has spoken to at-risk youth in Hampton Public Schools, churches, and civic organizations, encouraging them to reject violence, stand against bullying, and make positive life choices. His message is clear: dream big, stay focused, and believe in your potential.
Anton’s commitment to mentorship extends to his work with the Junior Commonwealth’s Attorney Program (JCAP), where he empowers young people to explore careers in the criminal justice system and become leaders in their communities.
